No new entries appear in the activity log after you browse the web

Background
Cyber Snoop ships with Microsoft's Winsock 2 upgrade software. Winsock 2 is Microsoft's next generation communications suite for Windows 98 and NT. Cyber Snoop uses Winsock 2 for added security and system stability.

Cyber Snoop monitoring is On and there are no new entries in the active Cyber Snoop log after you browse the Web or you get an installation error: "A winsock file is active. Please close all applications and run ws2inst2.exe from the directory where you installed this product."

Solution:
Winsock 2 failed to upgrade successfully. Locate your version number in the About Cyber Snoop screen found in the Help menu.

  1. Disable all start-up applications including personal web servers, utilities, filters and anti-virus programs. ( Check for these applications in your task tray. Also check your system task manager by pressing ctrl-alt-del once. Iexplore -IE4.0- is the usual culprit. )
  2. Reboot your computer.
  3. Verify all start-up applications including IE 4.0, personal web servers, utilities, filters and anti-virus programs are off ( Note: Performing an 'End Task' on iexplore does not fully kill the process ).
  4. Download and install the latest Winsock 2 update from Microsoft.
  5. Reboot your system.
  6. Turn Cyber Snoop monitoring ON.
